Early Information on Persons Served

On April 16, 2013, The Bethesda Center released early statistics on the number Winston-Salem homeless residents served by the WSNC Overflow Shelter

The Overflow Shelter opened on December 1, however, from December 24 to January 30, it operated as a warming center.

During its 103 days of operation it housed 2301 personnights, i.e. if a single person utilized the Overflow Shelter each night it was open that counts as 103 personnights.

Questions asked at WS/FC Executive Homeless Council

  1. How can homelessness be down (here & here) [according to the 2013 Point-In-Time Count performed by the Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness] and the number of people needing the Overflow Shelter be up?
  2. Did we see people who are and have been homeless and who were not “in the system”, i.e. living in the woods, etc.?
  3. Are we correctly managing our beds?
  4. Are people moving into housing faster?

Thank you to EVERYONE for your thoughts & prayers, gifts of service & time, and helping our neighbors who are less fortunate escape the freezing cold.
